Support for WA’s construction industry

Up to $10,000 in visa subsidies for employers and skilled migrants

Western Australia's construction industry has a need for skilled workers and migrants to meet the workforce demands of businesses today.

Support is available for both employers and skilled migrants to help fill in-demand construction jobs through:

  • The Construction Visa Subsidy Program: provides up to $10,000 per skilled migrant to offset costs associated with visa pathways, such as migration agent fees, visa application fees and relocation costs.

  • The Skilled Migrant Employment Register: helps to connect job seekers with employers seeking to use the Construction Visa Subsidy Program (CVSP).

The Construction Visa Subsidy Program provides employers with milestone payments up to $10,000 per skilled migrant to offset costs associated with visa pathways in the construction industry.

How does the CVSP Employer Sponsored Stream work?

Eligible employers can receive payments of up to $10,000 per skilled migrant at three milestone points:

Milestone 1 - Paid when employer registers for the CVSP - $2,000

Milestone 2 - Paid when the skilled migrant’s visa is granted - $4,000

Milestone 3 - Paid when the skilled migrant commences work with the employer - $4,000

Whether you're already in WA and want to stay, or you're looking to move to our sunny shores to enjoy the WA lifestyle - there's no better time to find work in the WA construction industry.

Due to the high demand for skilled workers in construction jobs, the WA Government is offering support to skilled migrants who choose the Western Australian construction industry - through the State Nominated Stream of the CVSP. Eligible skilled migrants can receive payments of up to $10,000.

Additionally, the Skilled Migrant Employment Register can connect you with employers seeking to use the Construction Visa Subsidy Program and help you find job opportunities in WA's construction industry.

How does the Skilled Migrant Employment Register work?

The Skilled Migrant Employment Register is a free initiative supporting skilled migrants to connect with employers to build the WA workforce.

  1. If you are a skilled migrant who would like to connect with employers across Western Australia (WA), sign up for the Migration WA Portal and create a profile by clicking the button below.

  2. Once you have created a portal profile, complete a registration to join the Skilled Migrant Employment Register (SMER), where you can promote your desired employment occupation/s, location, skills, and experience to employers with current WA job vacancies.

If your registration meets the Terms and Conditions, your information (with your identity kept private) will be published on the Register, where the new automated job matching function may direct verified employers with current WA job vacancies to view your registration. Your personal information and uploaded documents will be shared if you match with an interested employer.

  3. If an employer wishes to connect with you, they will send you an ‘Invitation to Connect’ via the Migration WA Portal.

  4. Log into the Portal at your convenience to update your profile, upload your employment related documents and manage your Invitations to Connect.

Sign up for the Migration WA Portal and Register your details on the Skilled Migrant Employment Register so WA employers can reach out and connect.

Hear what others had to say

  • The Construction Visa Subsidy will help us on a day-to-day basis by allowing us to employ people for peak load work. We've found the right people. We've employed them on a 482 visa and the subsidy scheme helps us to defray some of those costs. So it's actually a really big help for us. It's very hard to find workers at the moment, like really difficult. If you put an ad up, you will likely get zero response. There's too much work in the economy to be able to run with our normal labour pools. With a peak in workload, we have to find extra staff. I've had lots of conversations with the Construction Migration Office about how the process works and how we apply for it. In the end, all that you do is you go online and you follow the steps online. It's not difficult at all. Anybody can do it. So I think if you just go online, follow the process, you'll be fine.
